GLP-1 Discontinuation: Real-World Perspectives on a Complex Journey
Omada Insights Lab surveyed and interviewed Omada members with a history of GLP-1 use to learn more about their unique needs and experiences.
In response to the phenomenon of low GLP-1 persistence and subsequent weight regain after using a GLP-1 for weight management, Omada Insights Lab surveyed and interviewed Omada members with a history of GLP-1 use to learn more about their unique needs and experiences. Our findings show that weight management is a highly emotional journey in this population. While members see GLP-1s as a last resort, they find relief in knowing the drugs can help alleviate weight loss struggles—however, medication access issues, such as cost, loss of insurance coverage, and/or drug shortages, often lead to unwanted discontinuation. As a result, members want specialized support to facilitate the behavior changes needed for sustained weight health.
For this population to achieve long-term behavior change and improved self-efficacy with weight health, our findings indicate that members desire a specialized companion program that offers the following:
- Specific care over basic care
- Help with quieting food noise
- Nutrition and exercise support from the start
- Assistance with navigating the complexities of medication access
- A path to self-efficacy through behavioral health content
- Care from a real person
