Even in 2024, harmful weight- based stereotypes persist, including that individuals living with obesity are “lazy, gluttonous, and lacking willpower or self-discipline.” As such, many people believe individuals living with obesity essentially choose to do so. While use of GLP-1s have shown promising evidence of weight loss in Americans living with obesity, will their rising popularity impact the stigma surrounding obesity?
